Alun John Richards is the author of "A Gazeteer of the Welsh Slate Industry". the comprehensive guide to locations of slate activity in Wales, now updated, much enlarged and expanded and re-published as " Gazeteer of Welsh Slate Quarrying"
Alun John has spent some forty years studying the history,
archaeology and methods of the Welsh slate industry. As an engineer he
was responsible for several technical innovations in slate working. A
sometime lecturer at Coleg Harlech Summer Schools, he was for many years
a guest field lecturer at the Snowdonia National Park Environmental
Studies
Centre, Plas Tan y Bwlch.
